Vie Hotel Bangkok

Drama is the word of the day at VIE Hotel, built in a former cinema. Thai silks, hardwood floors and furniture, and floor-to-ceiling windows provide eye candy indoors and out. VIE Wine and VIE Cigar cater to connoisseurs, VIE Dining provides 11th-floor views and a rooftop swimming pool and relaxing VIE spa feed the soul. The hotel is the first Asian location of an MGallery hotel, a boutique brand by Accor. Opening rates translate to about $120 per night.

The addition of Steve Wynn's newest contribution to the Las Vegas Strip's sightline, Encore, actually opened in late December 2008. My buddy Zeke has a photo tour of Encore, sister resort to the Wynn. "2000 plus rooms and it feels like your own very special place," says Zeke. "It's what Las Vegas grew up to be." Encore, next to the Wynn, has a Danny Gans theater, plenty of upscale restaurants (including Switch for steak and seafood and Sinatra's for Italian), an 111,000 square foot casino and (opening soon) Victor Drai's poolside nightclub concept XS. Rooms are all suites with floor-to-ceiling windows and high-tech touches like bedside curtain controls. Rates start at $229 per night.
